A Cannibal's Lullaby

Character Poem #3: Roxanne Slater
(From Thorns & Horns)

I look like a flower, innocent and pure
But in my mind, I’m scheming my lure
Wondering how much you can endure
For you, my darling, are my hunger’s cure

With mastery of pride, I collect my prize
Three, five, seven family pot pies
Twelve, twenty-four
Rib fat galore

The killing and prepping a chore for me
I jump on any idea that could set me free
But something else lurks beneath
And it has razor sharp teeth

It speaks with tongues thick of lies
In such a sweet melody it attracts flies
With the promise of death I am drawn in
I allow the demon to reside within
